I borrowed a couple of books on crochet from our local library. Time to up the ante on my skills. Well, time to try anyway! 😂
As I thumbed through, marvelling at the possibilities, I became slightly hypnotised by the patterns presented in graphical form.
Here’s an example of what I mean…

Each symbol referring to a type of stitch; each symbol and the associated stitch having its place.
The combination of which resulting in a desired end product.
This got me thinking, as I gazed at the ellipses, crosses etc… I don’t really know what the others are called…
🔸 symbols on their own can have a meaning and this can vary according to context.
🔸 symbols combined together can create patterns and these can create a richer meaning.
And?!?!
Well, what if you take this into the realm of career goals and achievements?
Achievements are actual symbols of your success. Their relevance and importance vary with time, your aspirations and the goals you have set yourself.
Goals are future symbols of your success. Their relevance and importance vary with time, your aspirations and what you have learnt and achieved.
Turning these symbols into something that inspires you and enables you to demonstrate your value to others, regardless of where your career adventure takes you, means…
… stepping beyond the list.
Because it can help you to:
🔹Find and create patterns which help you appreciate and articulate your value.
🔹Unite reality and aspirations to bring more meaning to your success past, present and future.
🔹Enrich your goals and better understand achievements so they motivate and inspire you.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a list.
And it can be used as a starting point for reflection and analysis.
The key is to turn your symbols; your achievements and goals into something more meaningful and motivational to you and to others.
So you can find and create your own patterns for success.
