Tips on Managing Your Energy

In your professional life and your career, change is always present.

It’s what creates gaps and opportunities.

It’s a source of inspiration and food for your curiosity.

However, finding yourself in the midst of constant unrelenting change can often feel like you’re running in the fast lane. Often affecting your ability to ‘switch off’.

Which in turn can…

Skew your perspective

Stifle your creativity

Sap your energy

Reflecting on my own renewed respect for rest and relaxation, I was inspired to create The 2024 Edit of my PITSTOP tips.

Thoughts on thriving in constant change and keeping those energy levels up…

PEOPLE Even if it’s not your natural preference, talking with trusted friends or colleagues can be a great release which can help to top up your energy tank. Ideas get a breath of life; monsters can become less scary.

INTERDEPENDENCE Although independence is important, it’s our interdependence that enables us build strength and resilience. It also helps to stop you from getting stuck on Independence Island.

TRUTH Be honest with yourself. It’s OK to take a break. Constant change can be more tiring than you think. And be healthily sceptical of other people’s bravado about ‘powering through’. Not everything is as it seems.

SPACE Have a change of scene. Even if it’s into another room. Fresh space brings fresh perspective. Movement boosts your brain.

TIME Have a sanity check. How much time do you really have to meet your deadlines, aims or goals? Gift yourself time to rest and play too. And remember a minute may be a minute, but not all time is the same. How you’re feeling and what you’re doing can make one minute seem very different to another.

OUTWARD Change is constant across all sectors. What are other professionals doing in other industries to be inspired and thrive in change? Looking beyond what you know can spark ideas and lead to fresh insights.

PAUSE STOP! Switch off the mobile device. Step away from social media. Take a walk. Do something fun & unrelated to work. Have a nap. Recharge those batteries in whatever way woks for you.
