Why is Simon one of my Diamond Dozen?
When I was first introduced to Simon I knew he was someone special. His mixture of professionalism and a wicked sense of humour make him the ideal translator between the council and the local business community. His patience, people-focused approach and ability to add value in the midst of a complex stakeholder soup make him a bona fide Creative Enabler and a real diamond geezer!
My description of Simon in six words…
Natural connector. Local business community champion.
In this current role Simon is responsible for the creation, management and delivery of a number of initiatives and services to help local businesses start, develop and grow. It is working in this arena that sparked his special interest in supporting and championing small to medium enterprises (SMEs). He is particularly proud of the introduction of micro-grants for start-ups.
Simon has extensive experience of stakeholder management and engagement. He has successfully led programmes to develop community action plans using a systematic process of community engagement; the aims to improve the quality of life for local people, resolve local issues and provide strategic intelligence.
His commercial experience stems from his early career in the hospitality industry. Following a number of years working as a chef he made a successful move in to the further education sector where he happily helped others to learn and develop. After spending time working as a lecturer his responsibilities changed to include marketing, adult education and employer engagement.
